The world of the internet has changed how many people find Dachshund Puppies, and how many Dachshund breeders find forever homes for
their Fur-kids. As we all know the dog breeding world as a whole has not done the best job of showing people that they truly care about
the breed they are breeding or their own dogs in general. There have been way too many cases of mass mills, backyard breeders, and
breeders who are pious. Lori and I have been breeding AKC Miniature Dachshunds since 2002 and feel there is always room to improve and
develop as a Dachshund breeder. This means new times call for a new breed of breeder. Breeders who are focused on education and a true
desire to leave the Dachshund breed better off than when they started. A real professional breeder must always have goals and objectives.
Lori and I believe it can be different - via education, compassion, and activism.
How we raise our AKC Miniature Long Haired Dachshund Puppies, is in our home - where they receive constant care and attention. If a
Dachshund puppy is to develop into a great Dachshund adult dog, they must be loved, handled frequently, and socialized with children
and other animals. All our dogs are members of our family and are treated as such. We only breed Dachshunds, but we work with many
different dog breeds (including special needs / geriatric) dogs in our modern boarding facility. Lori is a professional groomer and
I work with dogs that have different behavioral issues. Our farm and our dogs are the center of our family’s life by choice. We feel
blessed for every day we get to do what we love. In addition to our work with dogs, we are a micro-wholesaler of alternative
agricultural goods. These include the selling and propagating of hardy grapes, berries, rhubarb, and rose cultivars.
Environment: We are blessed to have a beautiful home and farm. Our house is a rescued farm home that is 140 years old and has been
completely remodeled and put on a new foundation. We are big believers in keeping our home clean, smoke free, and in order. No small
cages, un-kept environments or un-kept people.
Education: We pride ourselves on being informed Dachshund breeders who have the goal of helping people learn about the Dachshund breed
and what they should expect from caring breeders. It is about getting to know a person or family first - before being concerned about
placing a puppy with them. A breeder should take pride in helping people find the right puppy, one that fits both the people and the
dog. This means truly understanding the personality of each puppy, and providing continued educational resources after you have the
puppy in your home. Raising a Dachshund puppy creates a lot of questions that people should feel confident that they can call or email
to have their questions answered and supported.
Compassion: The main ingredients to raising happy healthy Dachshund dogs and puppies, is a ton of love, handling, and family
interaction? When looking for the right puppy, take your time, and ask lots of questions - expect that questions should be asked in
return.
Buying a puppy is a big deal, and should not ever be taken lightly. Please remember to always consider dogs in need of forever
homes in the many Dachshund Rescues around the United States.
